Pixel 11 Arrives With Tensor G6 and a $100 Price Hike, but Twice the Base Storage

Google's four-phone 2026 lineup starts at $899 and drops the 128GB tier entirely, which softens the sting of the increase.

Key takeaways

  • Pixel 11 starts at $899, Pixel 11 Pro at $1,099 and Pixel 11 Pro XL at $1,299, each $100 above its Pixel 10 equivalent.
  • All four models run the Tensor G6 chip and start at 256GB of storage.
  • The base Pixel 11 goes on sale August 20; I found no confirmed US price for the Pro Fold.

Google launched the Pixel 11 family on August 12 with a new in-house chip, Tensor G6, and higher prices across the board. The base Pixel 11 now costs $899, a $100 jump from last year, though every model now starts at 256GB instead of 128GB.

The lineup

Four phones make up the 2026 range: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. All four use Tensor G6. In the US the three slab phones are priced at $899, $1,099 and $1,299. That compares with $799, $999 and $1,199 for the Pixel 10, 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL, so each step up is exactly $100. The Pixel 11 reaches shelves on August 20.

The Pro Fold is the open question. Pre-launch leaks put it at $1,899, but I could not find an official US number in the sources I checked, so it is left out of the chart below. Last year's Pixel 10 Pro Fold launched at $1,799 and shipped on October 9, which gives a rough baseline for timing as well as price.

Why the extra $100 is partly offset

TechRepublic framed the launch around the storage change: with 128GB gone, the cheapest Pixel now ships with 256GB. For buyers who would have paid for the larger tier last year anyway, the real increase is smaller than the sticker suggests. For those who would have stayed on 128GB, it is a full $100. Google has not argued that the chip alone justifies the increase; the pitch leans on the Tensor G6, camera upgrades and Gemini features such as the zoom claims quoted in regional launch coverage.

The timing is also worth noting. Google launched earlier than Apple, whose September event is expected to bring the iPhone 18 Pro, and earlier than the usual October Pixel cadence of previous generations. A mid-August release gives Pixel a few weeks of clear air before the iPhone cycle starts.

The competitive setting

Raising prices by a uniform $100 across three models is a deliberate signal. Google has sold Pixels as the value-minded alternative to Samsung and Apple flagships; the Pixel 11 base now costs $899, which is within reach of what Samsung charges for an entry S26 and only $100 below the Pro-tier floor of the previous year. The doubled base storage lets Google argue that the effective value is unchanged, but the headline number still moves the Pixel up a bracket.

India shows the same direction. Regional launch coverage reported the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL starting at ₹1,19,999, and described the launch as including a price increase there too, with the lineup beginning at ₹89,999. Raising prices in several markets at once suggests the change reflects Google's own cost structure and positioning, not a US-only adjustment.

The chip is the other big variable. Tensor G6 continues Google's strategy of designing its own silicon to run on-device Gemini features rather than chasing raw benchmark leads. Pre-launch leaks pointed to a 2nm process and a new modem, but those were leaks, not confirmed specs, so treat them as unverified until independent testing arrives. What buyers should look for is sustained performance, battery life under heavy AI use, and thermal behaviour, since those are the areas where earlier Tensor generations drew the most criticism.

What buyers should compare

Because every Pixel 11 starts at 256GB, the right comparison is no longer the old 128GB sticker price. Last year, stepping up to 256GB on the base Pixel 10 cost extra, so shoppers who needed the space were already paying more than $799. The fairer measure is the 256GB price against 256GB price, and on that basis the increase is smaller for those buyers, though Google's launch material and the pricing coverage do not quantify it. Anyone who would have bought the 128GB model is simply paying more.

The Pro Fold remains the most uncertain part of the range. It uses the same Tensor G6 chip and begins at 256GB, but its US price was not settled in the sources I could verify, and last year's version reached customers more than seven weeks after its August announcement. Shoppers who want a foldable should wait for Google's store listing rather than rely on the leaked $1,899 figure.

What to watch

  • Real-world Tensor G6 benchmarks, especially thermals and sustained performance against Qualcomm and Apple silicon.
  • Whether carriers absorb the $100 increase with trade-in deals.
  • The official US price and ship date of the Pixel 11 Pro Fold.
  • How the iPhone 18 Pro pricing compares once Apple's September launch lands.
